Lester Short had spent his whole life going through efforts to achieve all sorts of mental powers.
Constantly downloading information on the subject of strengthening the spirit and the mind. Through the years he failed at telekinetic efforts by never moving any object for a fraction of an inch, no matter how much he focused on it; likewise in other disciplines not achieving levitation, and wasting his years away at yogi practices that meant spending thousands of man hours in meditation strived to awaken the kundalini energy and causing it's serpent like configuration to spiral in an upward jolt of body electricity that would awaken everyone of his chakras for the attainment of a state of enlighment called the supreme illumination, a sort of nirvanic experience that had been reached by the likes of Ramakrishna and Siddartha Gautama, the Buddha himself.
The failure to reach these goals had become a permanent source of frustration to Lester, adding the fact that dedicating such a large amount of his time to these endeavours had impoverished him to the point of having to move into a room at a run down hotel in a downtown ghetto area. As a result hardly anyone ever visited him both for fear of getting mugged and because they perceived him as a weirdo deriving into near madness. He was practically an urban hermit.
Notwithstanding any efforts applied to his improvement in the mystic field he never went beyond suffering the toils and anxiety shared with the rest of everyday passengers that used the city transportation bus and metro systems.
So on that fateful day he finds himself getting off the bus in drenching rain and having to cross the city square without an umbrella or even a plastic bag to cover his head. By the time he arrived at his room his health had derived into a condition of delirious fever and pneumonia caused by exposure to the wind and the storm.
Lying there in the bed he saw them arrive. They were the inseparable sisters Death and Loneliness who had come to take him away and deliver him as fodder to the worms.
But at this very moment he saw the light of epiphany.  It brought him to rejoin all his practices from the past into the one single attempt to focus it all into the process of reincarnating into an angel or go for broke.
The final spasm as he lost his life was so intense it cracked his ribs in a loud popping sound that he heard within his last consciousness of pain. He was now lighter in weight and found himself flapping wings in flight in the company of angels, and there was one ,  more luminous than the rest who appeared to be the leader and smiled at Lester and signaled him to keep on flying and directed him into a beautiful room that had a table served with a banquet. The smell of vegetable soup stood out and he felt hungry and  proceeded to land next to the steaming bowl and began slurping with delight; only to hear a  voice that yelled out something about a fly eating the soup. A fly, he thought, well at least that's getting to a start.

Due to having such a scrawny and pale appearance Blaynard Ashkaty was the permanent target for bullying at school and known mostly by his nickname "Noodles".
In an effort to compensate and earn some respect from schoolmates he acted on a plan and proceeded to freeze himself inside a plastic box after ingesting highly caloric foods and substances and applying a snorkel with hoses to his mouth and nose to continue breathing.
As he was unfrozen on the following day he enjoyed with pleasure seeing the expressions of awe on girls and boys faces. Ever since he is known as "The cockroach."
